Enable Free Digital Preservation
Legal digital preservation of electronic invoices is required by Italian law. The good news? The Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) offers this service for free for 15 years through the Fatture e Corrispettivi portal.
Why doesn’t FatturaSmart include digital preservation?
Because the free government service covers 15 years (the law only requires 10), includes all invoices processed through the SDI (Sistema di Interscambio), and is completely free. Including it in our price would mean charging you for something you can get for free. This allows us to offer FatturaSmart at just €19.99/year.
Step 1: Access the Fatture e Corrispettivi Portal
Go to the Italian Revenue Agency portal and log in with your credentials (SPID, CIE, or CNS):
https://ivaservizi.agenziaentrate.gov.it/portale/Once logged in, click on “Fatturazione elettronica e Conservazione” (Electronic Invoicing and Preservation).
Step 2: Navigate to the Preservation section
On the page that appears, find and click on “Conservazione” (Preservation) in the left menu or in the dedicated section.
Step 3: Accept the Service Agreement
To activate free preservation, you need to accept the Service Agreement (Accordo di servizio) with the Revenue Agency:
- Read the terms of the service agreement
- Check the box “Accetto i termini dell’accordo” (I accept the terms)
- Click “Conferma” (Confirm)
Step 4: Confirm activation
After accepting the agreement, the system will confirm the activation of the preservation service. From this moment on, all electronic invoices processed through the SDI will be automatically preserved.
Verify it’s active
To verify that preservation is active, go back to the “Conservazione” section of the portal. You should see the service status as “Attivo” (Active) along with the activation date.
Important notes
- Preservation covers invoices from the activation date forward. Previous invoices are not preserved retroactively
- The service is completely free and covers 15 years of preservation (the law only requires 10)
- All invoices processed through the SDI are automatically preserved, both issued and received
- No action is needed after activation: preservation happens automatically
